A number of hand held steam cleaners are capable of generating 285 degree steam which should be hot enough to help soften dried oil based paint. Be careful not to rub the oil deeper into the carpet fibers. Sponge until the area is clean. Remember that you always want to use the gentlest approach to cleaning a carpet stain first.
Begin with step one progressing only to the next step if necessary. Start by cleaning the area with an upright or handheld carpet cleaner and cleaning solution. Blot or gently stroke the carpet pile. Mix a tablespoon 15 ml of dishwashing detergent with two cups 473 ml of cold water. Next step is to apply the wd40 on the stained area to soften it and work it with a clean rag and let it rest for approximately 20 minutes. You can remove any oil stain from your carpeting by using one of the methods outlined below.
