Clogged Septic Tank Filter
Even a well maintained functional septic tank outlet filter will eventually become clogged as effluent leaves the tank and travels to your drainfield.
Clogged septic tank filter. Clean the effluent filter on the outlet pipe to improve drainage. Proper septic tanks should be fitted with an effluent filter or tank outlet filter. This is installed in the outlet of the tank and helps prevent anything other than liquid getting into the leach field or clogging the outlet pipe. How often should you clean a septic filter.
As the solid materials accumulate over time they progressively clog more and more of the filter requiring maintenance. Then the tank and sewer line may not drain properly and back up. Your septic tank outlet filter needs maintenance just like the rest of your septic system. A properly working septic tank outlet filter will become clogged as effluent is filtered and leaves the septic tank.
Build up of solid waste in your septic tank filter simply means your filter is functioning as it should. Signs may include toilets backing up and slow draining sinks. If the septic filter at the septic tank is clogged effluent is being discharged abnormally slowly through it to the drainfield which gives the drainfield a relief but is abnormal. If a filter is clogged or partially clogged it may not be letting the effluent water from the tank flow into the drain leach field.
