Chimney Kickout Flashing Gutters
Here s how to install kickout and step flashing.
Chimney kickout flashing gutters. Use roofing cement and two nails to secure it to the roof deck. A kick out flashing is need at this location to direct the water into the gutter. Ideally the water will run into a gutter. Step 1 bend flashing.
Place the first piece of step flashing over the end of the starter strip ensuring it leads directly into the kickout flashing. Briefly remove the piece and apply roofing cement where it will sit. Take the bent flashing and align it with shingles on the roof. Step 2 install flashing.
Below the gutter in the picture at left water running down between the chimney and gutter s end is damaging the wood trim below. Kickout flashing also known as diverter flashing is a special type of flashing that diverts rainwater away from the cladding and into the gutter. A kickout flashing is need at this location to direct the water into the gutter. Place your kickout flashing on the base of the roof snugly against the wall.
Bend the kickout flashing so that water will run away from the wall. When installed properly they provide excellent protection against the penetration of water into the building envelope.
